Ficus Lyrata

The Ficus Lyrata is a widely sold African indoor tree. The tree is also known as the Fiddle Leave Fig.
Preferably place the tree directly next to your window, as this air-purifying plant needs a lot of light!

The Ficus Lyrata is poisonous when ingested. The leaves release poison that can be irritating to the skin. It’s therefore not a good choice if you have small children and/or pets.

The amount of water the Ficus Lyrata needs depends on its size, the amount of light it receives, the humidity, the temperature, and the season its in.
In summer, always keep the soil slightly moist, while avoiding placing the plant’s roots in a layer of water. (because of the risk of root rot)
In winter the plant uses only about half of the water it requires in summer.

The Ficus Lyrata drops leaves after being moved or if it does not receive enough light. This often occurs if the plant is purchased in the autumn or winter and then suddenly gets much less light than it got in the store. Give the plant a spot near the window and continue to take good care of it. It will then recover nicely in the spring.

Should your Ficus have yellow leaves for a longer period, feed the plant with houseplant food. Additional feeding can best be done in summer or spring as the plant is dormant in winter.

Bloemenweelde also supplies plants for trade fairs and events, for hotels or the office.
